Drummond</image:title><image:caption>John Drummond has been involved in opera for over fifty years. He first encountered the art-form at

school, where he accompanied rehearsals of a production of The Marriage of Figaro, and was prompted

to compose his first opera, which was put on with modest success. Since then he has worked as a

repetiteur for professional opera productions in the UK, directed over 30 productions, composed seven

full-length operas and nine short ones, and written a book about opera, Opera in Perspective. John finds

opera the most challenging and most rewarding of musical activities. He retired in 2014 from the

position of Blair Professor of Music at the University of Otago.</image:caption></image:image><lastmod>2015-06-11T08:40:04+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/2015/06/11/heleen-du-plessis-a-perspective-from-the-orchestral-pit-literally/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/backstage-3.jpg</image:loc><image:title>Backstage Queen of the Night
- Originally from Canterbury
- Age 25
- Studies privately with Judy
Bellingham
“I am incredibly excited to be singing
the role of the Queen of the Night. The
music is of course magical, and the
Queen’s arias are fantastic to sing: challenging but
incredibly energising and rewarding."</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/ben-madden-2013.jpg</image:loc><image:title>Ben Madden 2013</image:title><image:caption>Benjamin Madden: Monostatos
- Born and bred Dunedinite,
Otago Boys educated
- Recent Graduate: BMus
(Classical Singing) and BA
(Philosophy)
- Currently enjoying the
challenges of teaching and
directing choirs, whilst balancing
a busy performance schedule around the country
“I’m looking forward to seeing the many aspects
of this production come together – particularly
some of the rumoured hi-tech wizardry!”</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/james-adams.jpg</image:loc><image:title>James Adams</image:title><image:caption>James Adams: Tamino

- Dunedin-born, but has been in Wellington for the last 10 years. Recently returned with his wife to be
closer to family – in time for the arrival of their now ten-month-old baby!

- Has a degree in performance from NZSM - he completed it as a baritone

- Played ‘Samuel Marsden’ in Opera Otago’s production of Anthony Ritchie’s This Other Eden in
2014

“John’s ‘renovation’ brings a new angle to Tamino –
he’s not a prince anymore, but more an everyman
who falls into a strange and unexpected situation. It’s
a new way of shaping the character that I’m really
enjoying.”</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/sophiesparrow7968_2-copy.jpg</image:loc><image:title>sophie sparrow 8</image:title><image:caption>

“As a cast composed of nearly all Otago music
students, there is a huge sense of comradeship
that has been a tremendous pleasure to be part
of.”</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/robert-2-cropped.jpg</image:loc><image:title>Robert 2 cropped</image:title><image:caption>Robert Lindsay: Sarastro
- From Invercargill
- Age 19, this is his first operatic role
- In his 2nd year of voice studies at

“Playing an old man at 19 is definitely
a challenge, but I’m really looking forward to the
performances. It’s going to be a great experience!”</image:caption></image:image><lastmod>2015-05-10T02:46:38+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/2015/05/10/obituary-ian-page/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/ian-page.png</image:loc><image:title>Ian Page</image:title></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/ian-page-for-mary.jpeg</image:loc><image:title>Ian Page for Mary</image:title></image:image><lastmod>2015-05-10T02:38:55+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/2015/05/10/mayfair-costume-hire/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/11143303_1601952183424177_1403190067012362277_n.jpg</image:loc><image:title>11143303_1601952183424177_1403190067012362277_n</image:title></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/screen-shot-2015-05-10-at-1-14-48-pm.png</image:loc><image:title>Screen Shot 2015-05-10 at 1.14.48 pm</image:title></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/20150423_170927.jpg</image:loc><image:title>20150423_170927</image:title></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/20150429_095726.jpg</image:loc><image:title>20150429_095726</image:title></image:image><lastmod>2015-05-10T01:17:51+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/2015/05/10/raffle-prizes-announced/</loc><lastmod>2015-05-10T01:09:38+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/2015/03/31/raffle-extended-april-30th/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/screen-shot-2015-03-31-at-4-10-42-pm.png</image:loc><image:title>Screen Shot 2015-03-31 at 4.10.42 pm</image:title></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/screen-shot-2015-03-31-at-4-08-32-pm.png</image:loc><image:title>Screen Shot 2015-03-31 at 4.08.32 pm</image:title></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/screen-shot-2015-03-31-at-4-07-24-pm.png</image:loc><image:title>Screen Shot 2015-03-31 at 4.07.24 pm</image:title></image:image><lastmod>2015-03-31T03:13:42+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/2015/03/22/2015-agm-date-announced/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/cropped-agm.png</image:loc><image:title>cropped-agm.png</image:title></image:image><lastmod>2015-03-31T00:06:10+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/2015/02/23/opera-otago-raffle/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/raffle-poster.png</image:loc><image:title>Raffle poster</image:title></image:image><lastmod>2015-03-22T01:43:58+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/2015/03/09/givealittle-page-active-donate-now/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/10669086_10152386797693030_1652175335549348873_o.jpg</image:loc><image:title>10669086_10152386797693030_1652175335549348873_o</image:title></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/givealittle.png</image:loc><image:title>Givealittle</image:title></image:image><lastmod>2015-03-22T01:32:25+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/2015/01/10/seasons-greetings-from-our-chair/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/screen-shot-2015-03-22-at-2-08-10-pm.png</image:loc><image:title>Screen Shot 2015-03-22 at 2.08.10 pm</image:title></image:image><lastmod>2015-03-22T01:16:22+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/2014/12/16/artistic-success-this-other-eden-wins-at-arts-awards-5/</loc><lastmod>2015-03-22T00:54:51+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://operaotago.co.nz/2014/10/20/this-other-eden-in-pictures-2/</loc><lastmod>2015-03-22T00:36:29+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://operaotago.co.nz</loc><changefreq>daily</changefreq><priority>1.0</priority><lastmod>2025-10-18T10:50:24+00:00</lastmod></url></urlset>
